We’re all naturally nosey as human beings, and there’s nothing we’re more curious about than other people’s sex lives - and whether we’re matching up!

So what counts as a ‘normal’ sex life? Of course there’s no such thing, but there are definitely statistics out there which hint at what’s average for couples across the world.

How often?

One American study suggested that the ‘average’ amount of sex people have is around 1 - 3 times per week (40% of people surveyed). Around 6.5% have sex over 4 times a week.

The amount of sex we have does tend to decline with age, but not as much as you might think. The same study revealed that out of their pool of senior citizens (average age was 70) at least 50% were having sex twice a month or more, and 11% still had sex every week! Age is but a number...

For how long?

On average, straight couples spend 15 - 30 minutes having sex each time they get intimate, the same amount of time as gay couples. Lesbian couples, however, spend a little longer in the bedroom, averaging 30 - 45 minutes.

Are you for real?

Many people associate faked orgasms with women (studies suggest 50% of women have faked an orgasm at some point) but interestingly, so have 25% of men!

So what about porn?

Porn is becoming less of a taboo and more of an accepted way to explore fantasies, either alone or with your partner. And it’s not just for the guys any more! Companies like Joybear who are focussing on couple-friendly porn which caters for both men and women are leading to an increase in the number of women enjoying pornography. A survey run by Bustle magazine revealed that a third of women watch porn weekly, and 10% daily!

Final thoughts...
