Reasons to masturbate today posted on 25th September 2020

How often do you masturbate? For something that everybody does, or at least should be doing, talking about masturbation is still such a taboo. For those with penises, it isn't such an issue, masturbation is discussed and expected, normalised. However for those with vaginas there just isn't the equality there, even remotely.

Masturbation is amazing and everybody should be able to give themselves an orgasm, single or attached. It doesn't matter what turns you on, but it does matter that we talk about it and that we feel free to do it without shame. Don't let yourself forget, pleasure is your birthright and if you aren't giving yourself regular orgasms, you are missing out, whether you have a partner or not.

There are lots of benefits to regular masturbation, not least that it feels amazing. The clitoris is full of nerve endings just waiting for you to discover the most pleasurable way to turn them on. With the huge range of sex toys available you are spoilt for choice to find something that will get you buzzing... However, don't forget the power of self touch with your hands, while it can be tempting to just reach for a vibrator don't forget to give other parts of your body the attention they deserve, if you build up that anticipation it's only going to improve your orgasm...

Masturbation can also help to increase a dull libido. As you touch yourself and feel pleasure, you are literally building pleasure pathways in your brain, which over time and with practice will become stronger, making it easier for you to get turned on and feel sensations, especially pleasurable ones. So if your sex drive has taken a nose dive, making the effort to take time to explore yourself and climax will start to wake up and use these pathways.

In this way, self pleasure can actually improve your sex life with a partner. Because you are practising and finding out what turns you on, when you are with a partner it will just become easier and easier to find those pleasurable places. Masturbation will also make you more comfortable in your own body, which I believe leads to confidence, and there is of course nothing sexier than confidence in the bedroom. I see masturbation as part of my self love practice, making time for myself, seeking pleasure and getting to know my body more and more makes me feel empowered and sexy.

Not to mention, masturbation makes you happier - Orgasms release the endorphins dopamine and oxytocin, which can improve your mood and create a natural high. Orgasms can help you sleep because they physically and emotionally release tension and tire the body out. You can also see your self sessions as a natural stress reliever - what better way to unwind?

For some people masturbation can ease menstrual cramps, body aches and even stave off migraines. Many women feel horny during their period, I definitely do, and self pleasure is something I very much enjoy during mine, so if you haven't already definitely give it a go.

Why not experiment with having multiple orgasms? If you have one orgasm, you can probably have another on again pretty soon. You may want to have a little break as you can feel very sensitive after climax, but trust me, a whole afternoon to yourself with your phone turned of and some erotica to watch can be a very satisfying experience...
