London: A Sexual Playground... historically speaking As I sit writing this in my West London office, it is pouring down outside, as per usual. The idea of leaving the house ranks extremely low on my list of things to do today. I'd much rather be inside, lying next to a squeezable bottom or even in an intimate night club (don't tell the boss) feeling warm and fuzzy. And so, I ask myself, is it conceivable that our grim weather is responsible for London's reputation as a hotbed of naughtiness??
Looking at the history books, the 18th century suggests "images of prostitutes swarming through London streets in flood proportions". But back then, in reality, much of London's sex trade took place indoors, in brothels, bagnios, seraglios, masquerade parties, bawdy houses, private addresses and even nunneries.
Soho was the capital's sexual epicenter by the mid 19th century. "The respectable families had moved away and prostitutes, music halls and small theatres had moved in. From the 1930s to the early 1960s, Soho folklore states that the pubs of Soho were packed every night with drunken writers, poets and artists, many of whom never stayed sober long enough to become successful."
One of my fetish scene pals recently said, "You don't go out in London. London is for staying in - it always has been." He's got a point. In a club, or a pub, you're still in aren't you? And I have to say house parties are often my destination of choice. Avoid the weather; avoid the crowds of undesirables. AND it's up to you what you get up to behind closed doors. During my ponderings, I felt pleased I hadn't let our ancestors down as I recalled a recent weekend's activities. Maybe things hadn't changed so much...
It seems fitting, therefore, that our new film, the sequel to our popular London Sex Project series, is all about sexual experimentation. So, I am delighted to report we are well into pre-production on: The London Sex Project 2: Trying Stuff!
Some of you may be interested to know that a large section of this movie is based on my recent soiree.
If the lack of sunny weather has made our sex lives hotter, then for the first time, I'm not resenting the rain so much ;-)
