Female Ejaculation Doesn't Exist (say the BBFC)!?
By Liselle

On a recent visit to my mum's, she suddenly turned to me and said, "I'm glad you don't make THOSE kind of films." She was pointing to a review in a magazine I'd brought with me. It was for a new, hyped 'Gorenography' film. You know, the ones that indulge in elaborate torture, fear and suffering for two hours.

For once, I had to agree with my mum.

These ultra-violent, disturbing flicks are now widely given 18 certificates by the British Board of Film Classification. So, imagine our surprise when we recently submitted Match-Mates, a sex-positive porno, to the BBFC and they didn't even want to give it an R18 rating!? Why? Female ejaculation is why. According to the gentlemen at the BBFC it doesn't even exist. Apparently, the young lady in scene 4 (Tanya Tate) was receiving so much pleasure that she decided to (sorry mum) pee herself (as one does!!??).

I have several issues with this...

1. Female ejaculation DOES exist. We don't need to get into arguments and evidence. IT JUST DOES.

2. I think they do know it exists, or at least, some of them do. In fact, due to Anna Span's recent campaign, they had to acknowledge it. I also think they know that when Pete does 'that thing' to Tanya in Match-Mates, she is experiencing something much more fun than emptying her bladder. So in that case, it seems to me they just find female ejaculation alarming and obscene. Well, we're allowed to watch men in every R18 DVD explicitly ejaculating wherever they like on a woman's person, aren't we? Don't get me wrong, I make porn films - I like seeing men climaxing and ejaculating. But graphic, male orgasms are so elemental in adult films, female ejaculation can't be that shocking, can it?

3. Even if Tanya was having a pee on Pete's nice leather sofa would that really be so offensive and shocking? It isn't really a Joybear-thang but we're not condemning it. It's a natural function and doesn't cause anyone any harm (apart from the sofa!), so how is it less acceptable than a depiction of extreme, sickening violence? I'm not asking for censorship of horror films. It's just that it doesn't seem to add up.

It's rare that I rant like this, or get involved in the politics of pornography. But I can't be anything but infuriated by a board who thinks, "Hmm... drilling a hole in a screaming, innocent victim's leg = a nice cosy 18. A woman experiencing pleasure and having a natural physical reaction = 18? No. R18? No, far too obscene, even for that!"

Needless to say, we persevered with our friends at 3 Soho Square and we are delighted to inform you that Match-Mates has now been passed as an R18 and features Tanya Tate ejaculating (not peeing). We have a good relationship with the BBFC and we appreciate the guidelines (albeit sometimes sexist and archaic) they are required to work within but this particular issue needs sorting out. We didn't include female ejaculation to push boundaries and shock people. We didn't even know it was going to happen. We filmed a woman having a lot of fun and we think that deserves an audience.
